The 4th International Retailers’Sourcing Fair opened in Nanjing, capital of East China’s Jiangsu province, on June 28.

“We have organized the fair to build a bridge for overseas and domestic suppliers and retailers to meet and do business more efficiently,” said Luo Zhijun,Jiangsu governor, at the opening ceremony.

In face of the financial crisis,Jiangsu government has taken a series of measures to set off the negative effects in a bid to maintain a fast economic growth and ensure a decent life quality for the people.

“We are a bit surprised to see that the number of participants is much more than we have expected. We thought many enterprises and retailers wouldn’t come because of the impact of the economic downturn,” said Han Qinghua, secretary general of the organizing committee.

Participating in the fair are over 4,000 enterprises and retailers, the largest number ever since the fair was inaugurated in 2001. They include such world retailer giants as Walmart, Carrefour and Tesco. They not only make orders for their stores in China, but also have made a list of goods for their overseas retailing.

“This is a good chance for us to learn about the market and to build connections with more retailers who might be our future business partners,” said Ding Qilin, a representative from a home appliances manufacturer.

Apart from the exhibition which has a floor space of 40,000 sq. m., business talks have been arranged for the participants.

The fair is organized by Ministry of Commerce and Jiangsu People’s Government and will last till June 30.
