A Fijian soldier directs members of the news media to leave the
Fijian Parliament in Suva December 6, 2006. Deposed Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia
Qarase has called on Fijians to stand up for democracy, and in what seemed like
an act of defiance, senators in his deposed government held a budgetary sitting
in parliament on Wednesday as armed soldiers patrolled the parliamentary
compound. [Reuters]
