This is the reason why the majority of Chinese grad-students lack 'critical thinking' abilities, the phrase (critical thinking) itself is even foreign to them. Hardly would you find it as a subject of study even in the so called prestigious universities as you put it. In China, original research in the arts is often frowned upon, reference is king
