China Railway Group started the process of setting a "Chinese standard" for China Railway high-speed, or CRH, railway in 2012. After several years of research and development in harsh and changeable climate conditions, CRH is gradually surpassing the high-speed railway standard of Japan and European countries, and its standard is being adopted by an increasing number of countries.
CRH railway is the first railway to be independently developed and designed by China. China owns the intellectual property rights of CRH high-speed railway, and that is proof of its high standard.
The CRH railway covers more than 20,000 kilometers, and the network is expected to increase at a rapid pace in the future.
Industry standards in many ways help change individuals' economic behaviors, which are crucial for competition, especially in the international market. As high-speed rail technology is developed and the government gathers sufficient experience in running it profitably and safely, the "Chinese standard" will be raised further and more countries will adopt it. With more than 5 billion passengers being transported on CRH railway, China now has the largest network and passenger volume of high-speed railway in the world.
China's achievements have made the foreign media, which once suspected its high-speed rail strategy, admit that "high-speed rail has become the new symbol of China's rise as a great power", and "Chinese high-speed rail standard has become the standard of the world".
