Is teaching a poorly-paid profession?

Editor's note: A recent poll surveyed 417,196 teachers across the country and found more than 90 percent of teachers were not satisfied with their salary. It shows more than 60 percent of teachers make 1,000 yuan to 3,000 yuan ($150-$449) a month. Is teaching a poorly paid profession? Do they deserve more money? Forum readers share their opinions.

This is a worldwide phenomenon, not just limited to China. But as a foreign teacher working here in China and having witnessed my Chinese peers being paid much less and treated inferiorly, the profession and country has a very long way to go before it becomes equitable to our hard-working and dedicated Chinese teachers and professors.
