“烧烤”模式(shāokǎo móshì): 'Barbecue heat'

(China Daily) Updated: 2016-07-28 07:29

These days the National Meteorological Center has continued announcing orange heat alerts in a majority of regions nationwide.

The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the majority of the southern region of the Yangtze in particular, are experiencing scorching weather.

And the meteorological authorities of several cities there, including Shanghai and Chongqing, have issued this year's first red alerts for high temperatures.

The temperature in some regions has been over 40 C, which has been labeled "barbecue heat" by the media.

The continuous high temperatures have increased the load on the power grids in these regions. On Sunday and Monday, the electrical load on the power grid in Hefei, Anhui province, repeatedly reached record highs. And some industries in Shandong province that consume a lot of electricity have had their electricity supply restricted due to the high demand.

The high temperatures are also a health risk. In Jiangsu province there have been reports of several deaths from sun stroke. The high temperatures have also caused a higher incidence of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
