So I've been on an indie pop kick lately, and Peng Tan is definitely a darling of the genre. He's arguably one of the most well-known faces in indie pop, although somehow still manages to keep his indie cred. I'm not entirely sure what his show at Mao Livehouse on Saturday night is, as it's just Peng and two other guys called Lang Lei and De Heng. It's not clear whether this is a band or just a one-off performance by some friends, but whatever it is it will be a great show to go to, if only to see what Peng has been up to lately. He's one of the bands playing at the Black Rabbit Festival.

My pick: Peng Tan and Friends

Where: Mao Livehouse

When: 9:30 pm on Saturday, Sept 3

How much: 80 yuan (60 yuan in advance)

The other gigs worth checking out over the next two weeks are Sparrow and support at Jiangjinjiu on Saturday night (30 yuan), Locomotive Gentlemen at Mao Livehouse or Residence A and support at D-22 (30/40 yuan) on Sept 9, DH and the Chinese Hellcats plus Black Cat Bone at Yugong Yishan on Sept 10 (50/80 yuan), and So Long and Thanks For All the Fish at D-22 (30/40 yuan).
