1086 Slow Life District

A bar in the 1086 Slow Life District in Zhouzhuang. Located along the west bank of North City River, the 1086 Slow Life District extends from Quangong Bridge to Twin Bridge (about 200 meters long).

The 1086 Slow Life District, a bar street in Zhouzhuang, got its name from the history of Zhouzhuang.

Zhouzhuang, or “village of Zhou”, can be traced back to the year 1086. That year, an official from the Northern Song Dynasty surnamed Zhou donated his land to build Quanfu Temple. From then on, people began calling the area Zhouzhuang.

Zhouzhuang features the unique scenery of a water town in Southeast China and has attracted numerous men of letters to taste wines and write poems. Nowadays, former residences of scholars along North City River are well-preserved.

Among the former residences of scholars, the houses on the bar street has Chinese garden style outside and Western-style decorations inside, connecting the modern times with the ancient times. At some of the bars, visitors can write down a few words on the wall to record their thoughts during the journey.

Zhouzhuang, located in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, has a long history. It was also known as Zhenfeng Li in ancient times. During the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), the land was owned by Prince Yao of Wu as his domain, and therefore it was called Yao City.
