The 2017 Cross-Straits Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival began in Kunshan, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, on Sept 20.

First held in 2013, the festival has become an annual event in Kunshan and aims to promote cultural exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

Kunshan has emerged as one of the most popular investment destinations on the Chinese mainland for investors from Taiwan. Thousands of Taiwan companies have been set up in the city since 1990.

This year is the 30th anniversary since the re-establishment of cross-Straits communication.

The latest edition of the lantern show is being held in Huijusi Square and Zhouzhuang, a renowned ancient water town in the city. It will run through Oct 20.
