Royal jujube yards
Most of the jujube trees in Cuizhuangzi Village have a long history -- 168 of the trees are more than 600 years old and 3,200 date back more than 400. The planting area of winter jujube trees covers 1,000 square meters and four gardens are set aside for tourists to pick the fruit.
Liu Zhenbo, party branch secretary of the village, said jujubes from the village taste more crispy and sweet compared to those in other places because the soil texture is suitable for winter jujube trees. The trees’ flourishing root systems can easily absorb nutrition from the soil, which adds to the fruit’s appeal.
After success with selling jujubes, Cuizhuangzi Village has started to open picking gardens for green Chinese onions, radishes and winter melons to attract more visitors.
