Tianjin Medical University (TMU) will set up an international medical town in five years, which will become the center for medical education, research and health services in northern China.
"TMU plans to build this International Medical Town against the backdrop of overall development of Tianjin Binhai New Area," said Hao Xishan, president of TMU, at a press conference celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of TMU.
TMU International Medical Town, located at the Tuanbo New Area, will cover 275 hectares of the floor area, and include an international medical zone, a medicine R&D area, a medical education zone, and a health education and rehabilitation zone, and medicine research hub.
It is hoped the town will attract high-end medical talent and recruit more experts on bio-medicine according to the introduction at the press conference.
In addition, Wang Yaogang, the vice president of TMU, said that the School of Basic Medical Science will play a more important role in the development of medical science since basic medical study concerns the key and fundamental elements of medical science.
As one of the national "211 Project" universities in Tianjin, TMU is dedicated to providing excellent education with solid and distinguished faculties, and diverse research programs, which has cultivated tens of thousands of students from home and abroad. It is also the first university in China to adopt an all-English teaching programs in medical science.
