In Puhua Temple, at the foot of the eastern part of the scenic Mount Wutai, Shanxi province, there are magnificent stone carvings, especially some white marble works from the Republic of China period (1912 - 1949). There is some more current architecture from 1925, erected over relics, which provides a typical example of Buddhist structures of the period and stone carvings that have cultural and aesthetic value.
