The high-performance medical equipment and high-precision medical treatment industry in Jiading district, Shanghai, is going from strength to strength as more and more small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have taken it upon themselves to make innovation a top priority.
Statistics show that the overall output of the industry this year reached nearly 1.3 billion yuan ($194.8 million), up 81.3 percent year-on-year, with companies from the Jiading Industrial Zone making great contributions.
Take Shanghai Sanyou Medical Co from the industrial zone as an example, it is a therapy innovation oriented corporation which is committed to the R&D, manufacturing and sales of independently innovative orthopedic implants.
Recently, a kind of new surgical apparatus developed by the company has been introduced for clinical use, enabling the doctors to shorten the time for minimally invasive spinal surgery. The apparatus has obtained five patents so far.
This achievement was attributed to the company's focus on R&D by investing about 40 million yuan over the past five years and its cooperation with top Chinese surgeons.
With its income and profits continuing to soar, the company plans to build its new headquarters and R&D center in Jiading Industrial Zone, which is considered to be a boost for the development of the high-end medical equipment industry in Shanghai and at the same time an enhancement of the core competitiveness of Sanyou.
