Passive house tech passes crucial gas test

The Qingdao passive house technology experience center has successfully passed a crucial gas tightness test for its individual rooms, according to Qingdao Daily on April 6.

Passive house refers to a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for heating or cooling.

This center, located at the Sino-German Ecology Park, is estimated for completion in June and will be the first demonstration passive house project in Asia to obtain a medium-level certification from the German Passive House Institute (PHI).

In constructing a passive house building, the gas tightness testing plays a significant role as it tests the peripheral structure, reducing energy consumption and maintaining a constant temperature.

The gas tightness testing was carried out by experts from German company Meyer-Olbersleben. The test results far exceeded the standard specified by the PHI.
