3. Geographical Advantages and Transportation
With the Grand Canal crossing it, Dezhou has enjoyed a favorable location and convenient transportation and has been called ‘the Gate of Imperial Capital’ since ancient times. With its north bordering Beijing and Tianjin, south bordering Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, west to the Coal Base of Shanxi Province, east to Shengli oil field, it is situated at the intersection of East China and North China economic zones and in the circle of the Bohai Sea economic zone. In addition, many transportation arteries which include Beijing—Shanghai, Dezhou—Shijiazhuang, Luoyang—Handan railways and the Beijing—Shanghai highway on construction, and many national highways, also intersect here and entitles Dezhou a key city of transportation.
4. Natural Resources
Dezhou is rich in natural resources. The proved capacity of oil reserves is 158 million tons, natural gases 1 billion cubic miters, and coal 6 billion tons. With the Yellow River flowing cross the city for 62 kilometers, it provides industry, agriculture and citizens’ living with abundant water. With the total installed capacity of 2.63 million kilowatt, Huaneng Dezhou power plant ranks No. 2 among all the thermal power plants in China. Moreover, the natural geothermal resource features in huge amount reserves and vast distribution and thus worth exploring. Boasting its fertile land and abundant byproducts, Dezhou serves as an important base of agriculture and husbandry of Shandong Province and also the whole country.
