"Spring Buffalo Dancing"

Brought to Guangdong following the southward movement of mainstream Chinese culture, the "Spring Buffalo Dancing" was and still remains popular in Yangshan and Xinyi. "Spring Buffalo Dancing" is organized during the period lasting from the beginning of spring to the Lantern Festival as a way for locals to express their hopes and expectations for spring.

"Spring Buffalo Dancing" simulates the habits of buffalos. It vividly demonstrates farming scenes and real life. The actors make “short steps”, "quick short steps” and “box steps” in time with the music. It is easy. From the Spring Festival to the Lantern Festival in each year, the buffalo dancing troupes will dance from village to village in the daytime. First, they will perform in an open space at the village, before paying a Spring Festival call to every household.

"Spring Buffalo Dancing" is a folk art created by the people in Yangshan county during years of difficult labor. It is an expression of wisdom of the working people; reflects their longing for and pursuit of the good life, and demonstrates the positive and optimistic spirit of the local people.
