Power plant in Saudi Arabia progresses smoothly

Updated: 2020-12-08

With the completion of its final pipeline inspection and acceptance, the steam-release test for the first unit of the 3,850 megawatt Jazan Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Project in Saudi Arabia recently took place.

The project is being built by POWERCHINA Nuclear Engineering Company and SEPCO, both subsidiaries of POWERCHINA, the Beijing-based infrastructure construction group.

As the largest power plant project of Saudi Aramco, the owner, it is also the world's largest combined cycle power plant project. It includes five units -- each equipped with two Siemens gas machines and generators -- two waste heat boilers and one steam turbine generator.

On completion, it will not only provide electricity and steam for the Jazan Economic Park and also supply 2,400 mW to the Saudi National Grid, making it of great significance to the development of Western Saudi Arabia and the country's power supply.

POWERCHINA Nuclear Engineering Company was responsible for the command and coordination, plan formulation and on-site implementation of the steam test.

Together with SEPCO, POWERCHINA Nuclear Engineering Company organized the on-site office work including the design, procurement, installation and commissioning.

In the future, all employees of the project will further promote the safe, high-quality, and efficient progress of engineering construction, and further enhance the brand image of POWERCHINA in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia high-end markets.
