The international training program of the World Heritage Impact Assessment, organized by the World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for Asia and Pacific Region, International Center for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property and Lijiang Old Town Protection Authority, opened in Lijiang on Oct 15.
Sun Tie, representative of the Housing Ministry, Yu Jianming, deputy director of the Bureau of Cultural Relics of Yunnan province, He Shiyong, director of the Lijiang Old Town Protection Authority, and 30 students and program teachers from 14 countries attended the opening ceremony.
In the inaugural address, Yu said, world cultural heritage protection faces new challenges, under rapid developments in the tourism industry and increasing mobility of tourists, which require a world heritage impact assessment to provide scientific basis for heritage protection and management.
He praised the program, “The training shares international heritage protection management experiences and help the Old Town of Lijiang get more support from world-class professionals.”
This training includes lectures, case studies and field trips, which would last for ten days. Students will discuss heritage monitoring, management models and technical methods and share thoughts, innovative ideas and achievements.
The program can lead Lijiang Old Town protection work to become more professional and reach a global scale.
