On June 2, Li Jiheng, vice-secretary of the Yunnan provincial Party committee and governor of Yunnan province, met with Ruan Shanren, vice-premier of Vietnam in Kunming.
Li said that in April, the Yunnan provincial delegation paid a successful visit to Vietnam, in which the two sides reached a consensus on further promoting bilateral cooperation. They are facilitating the establishment of border police liaison schemes and traffic and transportation cooperation.
Li said that Yunnan, in the course of development, needs arduous support and sincere cooperation from neighbors, including Vietnam. This year sees the 20th anniversary of the China Import & Export Fair, Kunming. It has turned into a platform to deepen communication and exchanges between China and southeastern and southern Asian countries. Li hoped the two parties would make the best use of the trade fair to enhance exchanges in construction, industrial cooperation, major projects and border management, in order to facilitate mutual exchange and friendly cooperation.
Ruan said Yunnan has made substantial progress in economic and social progress in recent years. The province has developed it into a major area ready to open up to southeastern and southern Asia. Vietnam attaches importance to conducting cooperation with Yunnan in all aspects. He wished that the two parties would strengthen cooperation in tourism, culture, transportation, city management and personnel training.
