This district covers 499 square kilometers in the Shenyang Economic Zone in the northwestern part of the city and has a population of 626,000. It is also an expressway hub for China's Northeast, with good transportation and expressways and national roads extending in all directions. It also has other advantages, since it is 40 km from Shenyang's Taoxian International Airport and 166 km from Yingkou Port, while the ports of Dalian, Dandong, Huludao, and Jinzhou are all within a 4-hour drive.
The district's economic and social goals for 2014 are a GDP of 52.5 billion yuan, for an increase of 9.5 percent year on year, total production worth 138.8 billion yuan, up 11 percent, revenues of 4.57 billion yuan, up 10 percent, fixed assets investment of 48.1 billion yuan, up 16 percent, and retail sales worth 8.8 billion, up 11 percent.
The district's industries have shown development, with a key Parker Hannifin project in the US, a Qiangfeng Aluminum project, and the Wahaha Kailey Industrial Park, which now has 357 enterprises, whose total output value accounts for 62 percent of the district total. Its International Special Machinery Tools and Equipment City contains more than 100 enterprises, many of them well-known, such as Siemens and Doosan, and with annual production worth more than 6 billion yuan. The tool and equipment city has a special machine tool platform that provides technology and human resource services for the park's enterprises. Thanks to government support, the park has acquired top international equipment, solving a capital problem for enterprises and it has signed contracts on emerging industry projects. The district's modern agriculture is also growing, thanks to the industrialization of 200,000 square meters and it has many leading agricultural brands that sell well at home and abroad.
The district government continues its effort to make better use of rural and urban development to improve the region's image, provide better services, and build a great investment site for the North. And it has policies to help attract investment and provide investors with the same or even better help than national development zones and coastal open areas provide.
