A Wuxi delegation led by Wuxi Party Secretary Li Xiaomin visited Haidong in Northwest China's Qinghai province on Aug 6.
Wuxi has been helping Haidong to eliminate poverty since the end of 2016. With a total fund of 503 million yuan ($71.2 million), 160 projects have been carried out to attract investment and talent to Haidong.
In 2017, Wuxi's Huishan district invested in Qinghai Enlu Biotechnology Co to help expand production of black garlic in the city. The company offered free seeds and fertilizers to poor households, taught people how to plant them, and then bought the harvest above market price. A total of 905 poor households have benefited from the project.
Wuxi's Xinwu district established a close relationship with Huzhu town in Haidong in 2017 and has since implemented a number of high-quality projects involving industrial poverty alleviation, culture, education, and medical and health care.
With the financial support of Xinwu district signed last month, buildings for training local talents are under construction in Huzhu town. Two kindergartens were also built and will open this autumn.
Ping'an district has taken the lead in developing tourism in Haidong. Li Xiaomin suggested Haidong continue to develop tourism, which will lead to more jobs for locals.
