3 Wuxi railway stations pilot E-tickets for high-speed trains

E-tickets for high-speed trains on the Shanghai-Nanjing railway line have entered the testing phase, the Wuxi Railway Administration said on July 27.

Twenty stations along the Shanghai-Nanjing railway line will begin exclusively selling e-tickets for high-speed lines, including Wuxi Railway Station, Wuxi Xinqu Railway Station and Wuxi Huishan Railway Station.

Passengers will be able to tap a QR code on their phones or an ID card against a card reader at the ticket barrier to enter the station.

Passengers can print paper tickets as receipts for claim at the station's ticketing window before or within 30 days from the date of travel with their ID cards.

In recent years, travelers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other major second-tier cities have been able to use their ID cards to board high speed trains, while passengers in remote areas still require paper tickets.

This is reportedly part of China's move towards "paperless tickets" and is expected to be promoted nationwide according to Chinese railway authorities.
