A series of Wuxi Operas were staged at Hong Kong's Grand Center Theater in Xiqu Center on July 26 and 27, wining great applause.
Sponsored by the Jiangsu Chinese Overseas Friendship Association and the Federation of Hong Kong Jiangsu Community Organizations, the event marked the first time Wuxi Opera was performed in Hong Kong and was a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China.

Meng Lijun, a masterpiece of Wuxi Opera, was performed by the President of Wuxi Opera Company Huang Jinghui as the opening. In 1962, the work was filmed by Hong Kong's Hua Wen Film Co as a color movie, which made it popular throughout the world.
Another five operas from Wuxi Opera Excerpts, including the Pearl Pagoda: Precious Gife and Story of Pipa: Sweeping the Pine, gave Hong Kong residents a taste of some of the oldest and most authentic performances.
Tang Yingnian, president of the Federation of Hong Kong Jiangsu Community Organizations, felt proud that art from his hometown could be enjoyed in Hong Kong.
