The annual Hongshan Grape Cultural Tourism Festival began on July 20 and will last for one month. A series of events have been organized for the benefit of locals.
Known for its charming natural scenery and sweet grapes, Hongshan town in Wuxi's Xinwu district is a popular summer destination for both locals and visitors alike.
Those interested can claim any one of 100 total grape trees in Hongshan for just 200 yuan ($29) per year. Those who do will be able to plant their own grape tree and enjoy next summer's 10kg grape harvest. Farmers will assist in caring for the trees.

The one-month event features hand-drawn maps showing the best spots in Hongshan. Many popular tourist attractions will be free to enter, including the Taibo Tomb Scenic Area, Hongshan Relic Museum, China View Stone Park, Lianghong National Wetland Park and the Former Residence of Qian Mu.
During the opening ceremony, several cooperative projects were signed to promote agricultural industrialization, including a partnership between Jiangnan University National Science Park and Wuxi Hongshan Grape Specialized Cooperative, Wuxi Ruikeyi Bioscience Inc and Hongshan Sub-district Office, and the Power Supply Service Center of Xinwu District and Hongshan Sub-district Office for Rural Development.
Hongshan town has also been approved as the first provincial social education base in Wuxi to promote Wu culture, which can be traced back 10,000 years.
