On June 21, Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute signed an agreement to build an integrated circuit (IC) design institute in Wuxi National Hi-tech District.
The institute will be engaged in research into intelligent IC design technology, including internet of things IC chips, intelligent data processing chips, intelligent radar sensing chips and intelligent processors and artificial intelligence chips.
Fan Xiaohua from the Microelectronics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will take the lead in running the new institute.
Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has been developing its IC industry for years and witnessed investment from Huahong and SK Hynix.
Last year, its total output value in terms of its IC industry ranked second in the country following Shanghai. It is expected to reach 200 billion yuan ($29 billion) in the next five years.
