More than 3.1 million tourists visited local tourist sites in Wuxi, Jiangsu province during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, an increase of 2.61 percent from last year, according to the Wuxi Municipal Tourism Bureau.
The city's tourism revenue for the holiday reached 3.7 billion yuan ($549 million), up 7.1 percent from last year.
Several of Wuxi's biggest tourism resorts organized special activities to celebrate the Chinese New Year and attract more visitors during the holiday.
Water Margin City and Three Kingdoms City, both famous as filming locations for movies and TV shows, took advantage of the traditional Chinese New Year to organize events which transported visitors back in time to ancient China.
Wuxi Museum provided a series of cultural events to children and their parents, including exhibitions of national intangible cultural heritages, paper-cutting, purple clay teapot-making and Chinese writing and art lessons.
It has become tradition for Wuxi locals and tourists to visit the city's Plum Garden during Spring Festival and enjoy its beautiful and fragrant flowers. This year's Plum Festival featured a series of plum-themed exhibitions and cultural exchange activities.
In order to promote "all-for-one tourism", sightseeing buses were provided. They went straight from the Wuxi Railway Station and Wuxi Bus Station to popular tourist attractions including Lingshan Scenic Area, Kaiyuan Temple and Wuxi Plum Garden.
