The award ceremony of the 2018 Global Food Science Student Competition was held at Worldhotel Grand Juna, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province on Nov 16.
As one of the series of activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Jiangnan University, the competition itself was held in the university's Wenhao Hall on Nov 15.
A total of 70 master and doctoral degree candidates of 60 universities from 36 countries and regions participated in the competition.
The competition's judges were experts and scholars from global leading universities in the food science and technology field, including the University of California, Davis, the University of Georgia and Fuzhou University.
With the aim of boosting academic and cultural cooperation and exchanges between students around the world, the event created a platform for students of the food discipline to showcase their latest achievements in scientific research and share experiences.
Jose Carlos Bonilla Oliva, a student from Purdue University, the United States, won the golden award for poster presenter, while Zew Ye Htut, a student from National University of Singapore won the golden award for oral presenter.
Jiangnan University has been consistently ranked first in food science and technology in China during recent years. In the 2017 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, it was ranked second in the world in food science and technology.
