Switzerland pocketed its first gold medal in the 2018 World Fencing Championships in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province on July 26, beating the world number one ranked fencing team, South Korea, 36-31 in the men's team epee final.
It marks the first gold medal that the country has earned in this year's championships, after winning silver in the same event last year in Leipzig, losing a closely fought final to France.
"We are so happy, because we wanted the gold medal last year but lost the final in the match, we were upset all year long, but now we are so happy about it," said one of the fencers, adding they got their revenge over the French by beating them 45-38 in the semi-finals this year.
Speaking of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Swiss coach noted that preparations will get immediately get underway, and as China had brought them good luck, he hoped that Japan will do the same.

In the women's team foil, the United States affirmed their place at the top of the world rankings by securing victory over the defending champions Italy 45-35 in the final, making it the second time the country had made the podium in a team event at this year's championships.
France and Russia won the bronze medal in the women's team foil and the men's team epee event respectively.
On the Chinese front, the men's team epee was upset by Russia 23-40 in the quarter-finals, which meant they failed to make the top four.
The finals of the women's sabre and men's foil will take place on Friday, along with the closing ceremony of this year's world championships.
