2nd Wuxi People's Congress opens

The meeting was attended by over 400 members from the Wuxi People's Congress. They reviewed the work carried out over the past year and made work arrangements for 2018.

The city's mayor, Wang Quan, delivered a work report reviewing the past year. On behalf of the Wuxi Municipal People's Government, Wang said that a number of indicators of Wuxi were in the leading position in Jiangsu province in the past year.

According to the report, the GDP of Wuxi city is expected to reach 1.05 trillion yuan ($0.16 trillion), a year-on-year growth of 7.4 percent, which is the first time Wuxi to has exceeded the average growth on GDP of Jiangsu province in five years. The total retail sales of consumer goods reached 364 billion yuan, exceeding the average growth of Jiangsu province in ten years with the growth of 11 percent.

It is worth mentioning that a total of 12 Wuxi enterprises have entered the list of the top 500 Chinese Enterprises, ranking first in Jiangsu province. Heilan Group is the first enterprise to surpass its business income over a billion yuan in 2017.

Concerning the city's 100 city-level projects delivered in 2017, Wang said that all of them are under construction with total investment of 70.58 billion yuan. 44 great industry projects were signed in 2017 with total investment of 391 billion yuan.

The Wuxi government will continue to take full responsibility for pushing the city's development forward, making Wuxi a livable city with a strong economy, rich and diverse population, beautiful environment, and a highly civilized society.
