Liangxi district serves as the downtown area of Wuxi. It was created in October 2015, after the former districts of Chong'an, Nanchang and Beitang were merged. It covers an area of 71.5 square kilometers and administers 16 sub-districts, with a permanent population of 950,000.
Liangxi district features great location advantage, owning Wuxi's biggest commercial and transport center, subway hub and various highways connecting the airport and railway stations.
In November 2016, Liangxi district was named the national all-for-one tourism demonstration zone by the National Tourism Administration.
