The city of Wuxi in Jiangsu province was granted the "Belt and Road" Construction Achievement Award for City at a media cooperation forum hosted by People's Daily in Beijing on July 26.
Wang Jinjian, deputy mayor of Wuxi, addressed the forum focusing on the global cooperation of production capacity. He also introduced the city's industrial advantages and achievements accomplished in the Belt and Road Initiative to the assembled media groups and business representatives from more than 100 countries.
The Belt and Road Initiative is a development strategy proposed in 2013, which aims at boosting connectivity and cooperation among countries primarily between China and the rest of Eurasia, which consists of two main components, the land-based "Silk Road Economic Belt" and oceangoing "Maritime Silk Road".
In the first half of 2016, Wuxi has driven 210 investment projects to countries alongside the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road with a contracted investment volume of $1.24 billion, treble that from the same period last year. The service outsourcing volume hit $800 million, up 23 percent from first half of 2015.
Hongdou Group Co headquartered in Wuxi also won the "Belt and Road" Construction Achievement Award for Enterprises at the forum. The company took part in the investment and construction of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Cambodia, an economic and trade cooperation zone that has seen the settlement of more than 100 global enterprises and helped 13,000 local people gain employment.
