Alibaba Group's logistics affiliate, Cainiao, has furthered cooperation with Jiangnan University in big data, cloud computing and intelligent logistics, Jiangnan Evening News reported on May 9.
The reason why Cainiao chose Jiangnan University as its partner is that it is able to receive 6,000 packages every day, ranking first among all campuses nationwide.
All the packages are gathered together at the Cainiao logistics hub at Jiangnan University. Then they can be placed into storage, sorted and removed from storage quickly using PC and wireless devices.
Students can download an app called "菜鸟裹裹" (cainiaoguoguo) developed by Alibaba to check package information in real time. The upgrade pick-up model allows students to pick up their parcels by swiping their campus card, reducing the pick-up time to two seconds.
So far, more than 2,500 students have linked their campus card, which is expected to come into full use by the end of May.
On Nov 11 last year, the most famous e-commerce discount day in China, the number of packages ordered online to Jiangnan University was a staggering 79,000.
