Yu Zhiying, a girl from Wuxi, Jiangsu province, won her first world championship title in the 6th Bingsheng Cup World Women's Go Tournament held in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, on Oct 21.
In the semi-finals on Oct 19, Yu defeated Chue Jung, one of the best women go players from South Korea, and advanced to the final for the second time. Two years ago, Yu entered the finals but lost to Wang Chenxing, another Chinese woman go player.
In yesterday's final, Yu faced Park Shi-un, a South Korean veteran who had entered the finals three times before and won two titles. With her victory against Park, the Wuxi girl has become the 7th Chinese woman world champion.
Yu, who is only 17 years old, is very talented at go, a chess game invented by the ancient Chinese. She performed brilliantly in various competitions in the second half of this year.
