Ten thousand people in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, cycled on Sept 20 to welcome World Car-Free Day on Sept 22, according to local portal wxrb.com.
Starting from Wuxi Sports Center, the cyclists traveled 10 kilometers.
The activity, a part of the annual "Tour of Taihu Lake", aimed at encouraging people to bus, bike or walk instead of driving cars to save energy, curb pollution and improve the environment.

Car-free day was initiated in Paris on Sept 22, 1998, expanded to China in 2006 and has since been adopted by cities around the country.
