The Binhu district of Wuxi, Jiangsu province, is holding a Tibetan Tangka Exhibition at its Wuxi Ancient City Ruins Museum, from Jan 17 to Apr 30, putting on a display of 35 pieces of Tangka works.
The exhibition is aimed at getting people to know more about Tibetan culture through Tangka, and voice its wish that Tangka should be well preserved and inherited by modern youth. It highlights Duo-School Tangka that is formed by combining traditional-School Tangka with innovation.
Tangka is a kind of scroll painting mounted on embroidery, cultural relics, and handcrafts by Tibetan artists. Depicting the history, customs and legendary figures of Tibet, it has made it to the list of national-level intangible cultural heritage.
When taking a closer look at how the exquisite art of Tangka is made, you discover that it features strict composition and elaborate depictions. Paints are used to dazzle the viewers with their bright colors and exquisite delineation, including gems such as gold, silver, and pearl, and plants such as crocuses and Rheum officinale.
Wuxi's Ancient City Ruins Museum, located in Taihu National Tourism Vacation Zone, covering an area of 20,000 square meters, has a total investment of 200 million yuan ($32.18 million). It serves as a platform for protection and display of cultural relics, ruins research, and academic exchanges.
