There are 433 schools in Wuxi, including 15 higher education institutions like Jiangnan University. The enrollment rate of students for compulsory education is 100 percent. Wuxi has set up 106 science and research institutions, including 39 national post-doctoral scientific research stations with another 31 branches as well as 32 provincial post-doctoral innovation and practice bases and 4 branches. Cultural centers, libraries, and museums across the whole city open to the public for free.
The number of graduates from colleges and universities in Wuxi reached 24,000 in 2011, an increase of 4.36% compared with 2010. Among 33,916 graduates from Wuxi’s colleges and universities in 2011, there are only 3,214 local students, while the number of non-native students has reached 30,702, accounting for 90.52 percent. Students graduating from Wuxi enjoy employment rate as high as 94.13%. In addition, Wuxi has conducted “Technical Green Card Project” for college students’ employment. In 2011, around 1,500 students participated in the project, and about 1,000 students were granted the “Technical Green Card Certificate” by the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Wuxi. About 90 percent of the college students would work in emerging industry enterprises after graduation.
