Wuxi Metro Line 2 opened on Dec 28, 2014, bringing convenience to residents who live along the metro line from Plum Garden (Meiyuan) to Wuxi East Railway Station.
Running 26.3 kilometers, Line 2 has 22 stations covering Binhu, Nanchang, Chong'an, Xishan and Wuxi New District.
Besides a comfortable environment, the metro reduces commuting time and alleviates current traffic congestion on the ground. Wuxi has become the first city where two subways were put into operation within a year.
No. 1 line and No. 2 line are 56.11 kilometers in length, with an investment of nearly 25.5 billion yuan ($4.11 billion).
According to the Wuxi urban rail traffic plan, Wuxi urban high-speed rail traffic will regard the main urban district as the core and form a radioactive and circular network by three main lines and two subordinate lines by 2050.
No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 lines are bone lines, showing a radial pattern and No. 4 and No. 5 lines are subordinate lines. The network is planned to be 157.77 km long with 111 stations. Both of the two systems use type B metro vehicle and five carriages including three terrain vehicles and two trailers. The concept of energy saving and environmental protection will be integrated into routine construction, station design and technical materials.
