Alexander Hoffet, Swiss consul-general in Shanghai, and Nie Liqun, director of the consulate economic department, visited Wuxi on November 13, 2014.
Pan Junqing, vice-mayor of Wuxi, met the guests at the Civic Center and introduced the economic and social development of Wuxi.
Dieter Voegtli, president of Buhler Group China and Southeast Asia and a "Wuxi Honorary Citizen", also attended the visit.
Pan said that the import and export trade between Switzerland and Wuxi has seen consecutive growth in recent years,with steady development in bilateral investment. He hoped that Switzerland and Wuxi could further boost bilateral cooperation in the field of new energy, investment and infrastructure construction. Meanwhile, cultural exchange and friendship would be promoted to achieve mutual benefits.
Pan showed gratitude to Swiss Buhler Group for its contribution to Wuxi's economic development and praised Fu Deli for his title as "Honorary Citizen".
Hoffet carefully listened to the report about Wuxi's geographical advantages, economic strength and cultural infrastructure. He said that Wuxi is undoubtedly the "Pearl of Taihu", and he looked forward to making greater progress in bilateral relations between Wuxi and Switzerland.
During the visit, the delegation also inspected the former residence of Xue Fucheng, Nanchang Street and the ancient canal.
