A cultural festival opened in Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on May 27 to promote the art of Baotou dough modeling, reports the Baotou Daily.

Located at Dongdashan Arts Area, a special venue for folk artists in Baotou city, the three-day festival ran until May 29, attracting both domestic and foreign visitors.

A series of activities were organized at the festival, including displays of handicraft and dough modeling artwork, artistic performances and photography exhibitions.

Baotou dough modeling is a traditional folk art originating in Shanxi province. It uses polished glutinous rice dough, painted with different colors, which is modeled by hand as well as with some simple tools. The folk art has been listed among Baotou's cultural heritages since June 2012.

More than 80 dough modeling artworks created by 21 artists from Shanxi province were shown at the festival.
