Baotou partners with American tennis academy

Some 70 tennis coaches from Inner Mongolia autonomous region attended a training session in Baotou on May 2, held in partnership with Celsius Tennis Academy from the United States, reports Baotou Evening News.

A delegation consisting of tennis professionals from Celsius Tennis Academy including Cary Cohenour, initiator and dean of the academy, were invited to the training session.

Li Guangbin, an official from the people’s government of Baotou, addressed the launch ceremony of the training session. He extended his warm welcome to the delegation from Celsius Tennis Academy and called for efforts to promote the sport among teenagers.

The training for coaches will run from May 2 to 5. Training sessions for young tennis players will take place on May 6 and 7.

Cary Cohenour, who used to play tennis professionally, topped the list of Florida’s Competitive Tennis Coaches of the Year.

“The sport has developed over the past decade. We have to make some changes as the players are getting stronger. We will basically focus on tactics this time to improve Baotou players’ competitiveness,” said Cohenour at the launch ceremony.

Tennis, a racket sport originating in France, is among the world’s most popular sports. Baotou now boasts more than 40 registered tennis clubs and more than 200 tennis courts. More than 12,000 Baotou residents claim to play the sport regularly.

“I’ve been a tennis coach for nine years but it is the first time that I have attended a training session involving the world’s top tennis coaches,” said Zhou Zhixin, a tennis coach in Baotou, who thought highly of the training sessions.
