The 2017 National Medicine and Health Products Trade Fair drew over 2,600 pharmaceutical companies from across China to participate. Held at the Inner Mongolia Exhibition Center in Hohhot on Feb 16, the trade fair saw earnings of 920 million yuan ($134 million) in turnover.

The trade fair also provided thousands of job opportunities for the region, driving the development of medicine-related industries alongside the logistics sector.

“It’s the sixth year for me to take part in the Hohhot medicine trade fair. Our factory has expanded business and increased income since attending the trade fair. This year, we bargained productive deals hitting around 4 million yuan,” said a manager of a medical company from Heze, Shandong province.

Once crowned as China’s dairy city, Hohhot now owns the brand-new title of medicine city for the medical expo’s run of 19 consecutive years, according to Gao Xiaolu, head of Inner Mongolia Exhibition Association.

The medicine expo highlighted the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and innovational marketing modes. With new medical businesses springing up, the exhibited medical and health products have recently been engaged with many other sectors, household washing materials included.

Established in 1999, the Hohhot medicine expo ranks top among China’s medicine fairs in terms of the number of exhibitors and medicine categories, added Gao.
