Baotou has released its top 10 scientific and technological achievements for the year, according to the Baotou Daily. The city is the largest industrial city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
1. Baotou Science and Technology Museum opened to the public on Jan 11, and received a total of 400,000 tourists during the year. The museum was selected as one of the top institutions for popularizing science and technology by the Publicity Department of the CPC, China Association for Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
2. An autonomous region-level meeting on promoting scientific and technological developments was held from March 1-2 in Baotou, targeting the development of makerspaces in the autonomous region.
3. On May 30, Baotou was selected as one of the pilot cities for promoting “Fintech” (financial technology) in China, businesses based on a combination of technology and finance.
4. Seven documents were issued by the people’s government of Baotou, targeting the scientific and technological developments in the city.
5. Baotou and Tsinghua University signed a cooperation agreement on building a big data research institute at a big data promotional conference that took place in Beijing on Nov 7. The institute will be the first institution in Baotou to focus on the big data industry, facilitating the development of Baotou into a smart city and a model city for e-commerce promotion.
6. Three science and technology-related institutions were set up in Baotou on Dec 6 –– China Technology Exchange (CTEX) Baotou Center, the National Center for Science & Technology Evaluation Baotou Center and Inner Mongolia Science and Technology Market.
7. Zhang Yuanzhong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and Du Xuejun, mayor of Baotou, visited Xu Nanping, head of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
8. Baotou Peking University Science Park was selected as one of the national incubators for technology-based companies.
9. Baotou science and technology bureau (intellectual property) won national recognition for the patent system on Dec 23.
10. Two pioneer parks measuring 100 mu (6.67 hectares) opened during 2016.
