Musical depicts stories of sent-down youth

Baotou Grand Theater stages a musical named “Love of Grassland” on Dec 18, Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Funded by China National Arts Fund, the drama was created in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The drama depicted stories between herdsmen on the grassland of the autonomous region and the sent-down or educated youth, also known as zhiqing, who left the urban districts to live and work in rural areas as part of the "Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside Movement" during the “cultural revolution” (1966-76).
