A big data promotion conference, held in Beijing on Nov 7, saw the signing of 19 projects worth 28.3 billion yuan ($4.2 billion), according to the Baotou Daily.
The conference was aimed at popularizing the big data industry and spurring breakthroughs in the industry to boost the economy in Inner Mongolia.
Wang Zhonghe, secretary of the CPC Baotou municipal committee, introduced the achievements Baotou has made in the big data industry over the past few years at the conference, explaining remarkable developments in the construction of a smart city, cloud computing, e-commerce and information technologies.
According to Wang, the promotion of the big data industry will be key to upgrading the industrial structure and growth of the local economy. Baotou will make every effort to promote the industry and attract investment in this field.
Baotou has been one of the pilot cities for industrial cloud innovation services and information technologies promotion. The city was selected as a Broadband China pilot city in 2016.
The Broadband China strategy was initiated by the State Council in 2013, and aims to drive all-around broadband development. The strategy outlines an eight-year plan for broadband development in China, with the aim of increasing the speed of the network, lowering fees and attracting more users. So far, the strategy is being led by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and operated by telecommunication companies.
