Shanghaimiao town in the Otog Front Banner, near the city of Erdos, Inner Mongolia started a ±800 kilovolt UHV transmission project to the city of Linyi, Shandong province, in March 2016. The project’s rated capacity is 10,000 megawatts, and the electricity transmission distance is about 1,238 km. Investment in the project is about 22.1 billion yuan ($3.4 billion).
The project is part of China's UHV power transmission program for air pollution control. It is also Inner Mongolia's first UHV DC transmission line to be constructed, and will equate to 10 power transmission lines of 500 kilovolts after completion.
