When China's traditional Spring Festival joined the West's Valentine's Day, on Feb 14 this year, in Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, they seemed the perfect partners, fitting each other to a T, with both retailers and restaurateurs reporting good business as people snatched up all kinds of Valentine's Day gifts, from flowers to chocolates to fashion and hitting a new high.
