The Inner Mongolia autonomous region's communications department has reported that they added 779 kilometers of expressways this past year, bringing the total length of the region's expressway to 5,000 km, connecting all of its 12 major cities with neighboring provinces.

Over the next five years, the region reports that its expressways will stretch for 10,000 km, and will reach poorer areas, while reducing the tolls. For environmental protection, the region will also use more natural gas for fuel, which will be reflected in its expressway service areas.
