Shiguai district in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region won the first Sino-European Green and Smart Cities Award, at a ceremony in Hong Kong on Dec 14.

An initiative of the French Foundation Prospective and Innovation and China Center for Urban Development, the award is intended for outstanding performances in green and smart transportation. Thirty-three cities from China and Europe won the prize. Shiguai district was awarded for its technological innovation in the building of a smart city.
Shiguai district has built up a framework for the city’s smart development. The district has spent 2.8 billion yuan ($433.44 million) on smart transportation, tourism, employment and administration, involving the public services and hardware construction of infrastructure and environmental supervision. It is the award’s only winner in Inner Mongolia.
