North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region- where the Mongolian ethnic group accounts for 17 percent of the population- has independently developed a smart phone operating system in the Mongolian language.
The new operating system will promote the informatization of the spoken and written Mongolian language. The system uses left-vertical typing in accordance with the Mongolian language and a Chinese-Mongolian bilingual interface, according to a press conference on Sept 29.
With help from the branches of telecommunication operators in Inner Mongolia, such as China Telecom and Unicom, the region’s ethnic affairs commission will promote the operating system throughout the region, especially in remote areas.
