The industry conference and expo were organized with the themes of green, health, environmentally-friendly and safe, to display the city and region’s green agriculture and livestock products, and to promote cooperation and change in agriculture and animal husbandry.

In addition to 401 exhibitors and 1,020 purchasers, participants also included officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and local governments, and representatives of domestic and overseas leading enterprises.

Through exhibitions, trade, investment promotion and forums, the conference aims to be an international platform for the upstream and downstream mutton and beef industries, said Bao Gang, mayor of Baotou in his address.

Christ Chilcott, director of the animal industries bureau of Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in Australia was invited for the conference. Inner Mongolia and Queensland are similar in some aspects, he told China Daily, hoping that in-depth cooperation in agricultural and livestock products processing and breeds improvement would be reached between two sides. This industrial expo, he said, is an opportunity to communicate and learn from each other.

As a green agricultural and animal products production and distribution base, Inner Mongolia has been working to upgrade agriculture and animal industries’ development methods for better products, according to Guo Jian, head of the region’s department of agriculture and animal husbandry. The expo was expected to promote the region’s mutton and beef industries’ healthy development through exchange and cooperation.

The conference and expo will last until July 12.
